Flexible disc couplings may consist of two hubs and a flexible, flat spring disc (single disc coupling) or of two hubs and a center spacer element sandwiched by two spring discs (double disc coupling). These couplings allow specified amounts of angular misalignment only (single disc design) or angular and parallel misalignment (double disc design) while maintaining torsional rigidity. Disc couplings are an excellent choice for high-rpm (high speed shaft) applications, but are more delicate than other coupling designs and can easily break if misalignment specified limits are exceeded.
